Need for Speed Underground supuso un cambio drástico en la serie al cambiar autos de lujo que nadie podría permitirse por autos que están en cualquier cochera, aunque con el toque distintivo de cada conductor.
Autos potentes pero, sobre todo, una personalización llena de variantes hacían del primer Need for Speed Underground un título único en su género. Su segunda parte mejora éste y los demás aspectos. Más variedad de autos, mucha más personalización (incluidos interiores) y un desarrollo menos lineal y más abierto son algunas de las características más destacadas de esta segunda parte.
Ahora tener un auto genial como el mió no te costara horas de juego con los nuevos parches de creación de partidas 100% seguro y probado.
También se ha mejorado el sistema de nitro, el cual depende ahora de nuestro "arte" a la hora de hacer derrapes, esquivar accidentes y demostrar tu habilidad con los hidráulicos.
